International conflicts about the three common spaces:
- Antarctica, High Seas and Deep Seabed, Outer Space
-

The three common spaces (also known as global commons) are all under stress. While their basic characteristic is the non-appropriation by States, we see more and more attempts to abolish or to put into question and misinterpret this principle. This is done primarily out of geostrategic and economic interests. This seminar provides an understanding of the governance of the three common spaces, analyses the conflicts, which are currently leading to serious threats regarding peace and stability, and searches for ways and means to safeguard them as beacon of equitability and sustainability in international relations.

The seminar was already held in the winter semesters 2011/12, 2014/15, 2016/17, 2018/19 as well in the summer semesters 2009, 2022 and 2025.
