Security in outer
space is strongly affected by the current geopolitical shifts and distortions.
While space activities have from the beginning of the space age in the late
1950s been of a dual use character, there has not been an outright arms race in
outer space. This is currently changing dramatically and we see more and more
interferences just below the threshold of armed conflict and acts of war. In
this seminar we investigate how the security structure in outer space developed
over the past 70 years and what is required to avoid full-fledged “star wars”.
